Morning Routine

I have always hated the sound of an alarm clock. Okay, who really likes that sound? Now I have the best wake up call that I actually look forward to. We have been blessed that Nate, for the most part, is a great sleeper. He usually wakes up around 8:00 a.m. Most nights I tell myself and Darren that I am going to get up before Nate and have my quiet time and get some things done around the house. I think I've done that maybe three times. Instead, I sleep in until I hear Nate "hooting." Yes, I said hooting. It sounds like we have our very own little hoot owl, which is much more pleasant than a blaring alarm clock. I love walking into his room and saying "Good morning baby Nate" and seeing his huge smile. He is so happy and excited to start the day. Then I pick him up and we open the blinds while I sing "let the sunshine in." Then we take care of business and have a diaper change and a bottle. Afterward, I usually put him in the exersaucer for a few minutes so I can eat breakfast and get a few things done. Here are a couple of pictures from this morning.

Peas...YUCK!

Today was our weekly Wal-Mart trip (by the way, I hate going to Wal-Mart for a number of reasons, but my number one reason is that there are NEVER enough checkout lanes open). Nate has been eating squash, sweet potatoes, and carrots for a while now, so I thought we would try a green vegetable this week. I decided on peas since they are probably sweeter than green beans. I honestly thought that he would eat them since he has eaten everything else so well. I was wrong. He ate the first two bites pretty well, but on the third bite the horrible faces started. It was hilarious. I have never seen faces like that before. He still swallowed them, so we tried another bite. That is when the gagging started. At this point we realized that Nate would not be eating peas any time soon. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures or video. I honestly didn't think it was going to be that eventful.

Totally changing the subject, Darren and I are big Rick and Bubba fans. Today we listened to Rick speak at Bronner's memorial service. If you haven't heard this yet you need to go to rickandbubba.com and listen/watch.

Fun in the Snow

What a fun day! It was so exciting to finally get some snow in our neck of the woods. Darren had to work this morning and I was so worried that the snow would be gone by the time he got home. I was determined to get some pictures of Nate in the snow, so Jill and Ashlyn came over to help me take pictures. This afternoon we went to my parents' house and they had even more snow than we did. Darren, Daddy, and I made a snowman. The last snowman I made was during the blizzard of 1993. I cannot believe that has been 15 years ago!!! I hope it's not 15 years before we get to make another one.

Teething

Nate's first tooth has arrived. I felt it for the first time EARLY Thursday morning - like 3:30 a.m. It has been a long time since we have been up at that hour. He was very fussy most of the day on Thursday, but has been much better today. Hopefully I will be able to get a picture soon.

Six Month Checkup

Nate's six month checkup was Monday. He weighed 17 pounds, 12 ounces and was 27 1/2 inches. I can't believe he is already 6 months old and I can't believe how quickly he is growing! I am so thankful to be home with him everyday! I LOVE watching him discover new things. This week he has figured out that he can make noise by clanging things together. He is sitting alone pretty well, but is still hanging out in his boppy most of the time - just to be safe. I am sure he loves being at home with me as well. If he was at daycare they wouldn't do "Good Job Nate" cheers when he finished eating, burped, rolled over, etc.

To Blog or Not to Blog

I have been contemplating blogging for several months. I actually created a blog back in the fall and quickly deleted it because there was a lot going on and having the added chore of blogging seemed like something I didn't have time for. I also tend to be a little obsessive and putting my thoughts out there for the world to read really stresses me out, but not for the obvious reasons that someone might think. I am more concerned with the fact that I am a horrible speller and I might actually waste 10 or 15 minutes deciding whether or not to use a comma. So why am I starting a blog? Everyone else has one, so I need one too. Just kidding. I am starting this blog to record the happenings of my super exciting life. I have a precious 6 month old son and I want to be diligent in keeping up with his growth and development. I have the absolute worst memory and I don't want to forget all of the exciting things he is doing. I want to be able to remember the fact that he thinks people sneezing, including himself, is so funny and that my awesome dance moves are hilarious. I honestly feel like I will be more likely to record stuff in this format instead of keeping a traditional journal. Besides, traditional journals don't have spell check. I also just want to do a better job of keeping track of life, friends and family, and current events.
