God has been teaching me so much the past several months. It is very exciting but also very challenging. One of the biggest things I have learned is how truly self-centered I have been... my entire life. I have ignored the lost and the poor, while I have focused on myself, my family, my friends and my stuff. It is obviously important for me to focus on my family and be a Godly wife, mother and friend; but it is not okay for me to get so wrapped up in my richly blessed life that I forget that there are millions of people in the world that are lost and living in extreme poverty. The Bible is filled with scriptures concerning this issue. A couple of my favorites are James 1:27 (Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress
and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.) and Isaiah 1:17 (Learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow).
Darren and I are currently praying about how we can live out these scriptures. We want to be wise in our decision making, but we also want to act urgently since thousands of children die each day from hunger and preventable disease.
If you feel compelled to give, here are a few suggestions (these are all Christ centered organizations that are extremely reputable)...
